Evolution Gaming Shuts Down Netent Live Studios
The employees of NetEnt AB are facing a time of uncertainty after the well-known iGaming software developer announced its plans to downsize following its recent acquisition. Evolution Gaming, the new owner, is considering a major reorganization.
According to reports from the Times of Malta, the Stockholm-listed company was acquired by its fellow Swedish company for $2.12 billion. One of Evolution’s first decisions was to close NetEnt’s live casino studios in Qormi. The employees at these locations are now at risk of losing their jobs, and the process of selecting individuals has begun.
A Brief Moment in the Limelight
With over 1,000 employees worldwide, NetEnt AB had recently expanded its portfolio with live dealer casinos just three months ago. However, experts had predicted this outcome as Evolution Gaming currently operates nine live casinos and blackjack rooms in the same region.
Statements from Officials
The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority approved the merger between Evolution and NetEnt back in September. The Ministry for Economy, Investments, and Small Businesses is currently discussing options for replacing positions for those affected by the restructuring efforts.
The authorities in Malta have set up a helpline urging individuals who may be impacted by job cuts to register on JobsPlus’ training and employment platform. The official statement from the Ministry reads, “While acknowledging Evolution Gaming’s commitment to the local economy, the government is currently in talks with all parties involved to ensure a smooth transition for employees affected by the restructuring. Additional arrangements are being made through JobsPlus to provide personalized recommendations and job-matching services for those involved.”
